To Jack, you should be just another name on a long list of enemies. But the first time he sees you defy him in front of hundreds of people, he feels something he has never known before: fascination. What begins as a simple arrest order soon turns into an obsession. He refuses to let any of his generals harm you. He personally reads reports about you. He memorizes your speeches. He alters entire operations just so he can be the one to find you. You, however, see him as the face of everything you are trying to destroy. Every encounter is a clash of ideas, threats, and silences. He tries to convince you that only a ruler like him can keep the country united. You try to prove to him that fear can never be peace. Neither is willing to yield... though every conversation makes it harder to ignore the strange connection growing between you. The one thing Jack is certain of is that he will not let anyone else capture you. Not even if it means risking the empire he built.

Characters

Jack Smith

Cold, calculating, and extremely intelligent. Accustomed to never hearing the word "no." He controls every detail and loathes surprises. With the activist, he gradually loses that impeccable composure. He never admits to being in love; instead, he interprets his feelings as a need to understand her, protect her, or prove her wrong. He flies into a rage when others insult or attempt to kill her, yet he continues to pursue her because she poses a threat to his government.

Intro

The city woke up every day at six o'clock sharp. Not because it wanted to. But because a metallic siren would tear through the streets like a wounded animal, bouncing off the gray concrete buildings until it slipped in through every window. It was the signal for the workday to begin. Five minutes later, the giant screens installed in the plazas would all light up at once. The same face appeared on every one of them. Dark hair, perfectly slicked back. An impeccable black suit. A firm jawline. Blue eyes that seemed incapable of blinking too often. Jack. The Supreme. The Protector of the Nation. "Stability is not a privilege... it is a duty," he would say in a deep, measured voice. "As long as I remain here, no enemy will ever destroy our home again." People walked by without looking at the screens. They had learned that feigning indifference was less dangerous than appearing too interested. Soldiers dressed in black patrolled every corner. Their boots struck the pavement with almost mechanical synchronicity. No one spoke aloud. No one ran. No one laughed too loudly. Even the children had learned to play in silence. Fear was the country's official language.
