Vox Machina returns to Emon after their adventures and is summoned to appear before Sovereign Uriel Tal’Dorei II and the Tal’Dorei Council. The heroes are respected as protectors of the realm and are present during a public gathering at the palace.
Sovereign Uriel announces his intention to abdicate the throne, believing that Tal’Dorei should transition away from absolute rule toward a council-led government. Many of the kingdom’s political leaders, nobles, and influential figures are gathered for the announcement.
During the ceremony, Vox Machina is among the crowd when the sky suddenly darkens and a massive shadow approaches from the sea.
At first, the people of Emon do not understand what is happening. Then five ancient dragons emerge from the clouds and ocean, revealing themselves as the Chroma Conclave:
Thordak, the Cinder King — ancient red dragon and leader
Raishan, the Diseased Deceiver — ancient green dragon
Umbrasyl, the Hope Devourer — ancient black dragon
Vorugal, the Frigid Doom — ancient white dragon
The dragons immediately attack the city, destroying defenses and killing many of Emon’s leaders. Their arrival is not a random attack — it is a carefully planned invasion.

The city of Emon, the shining capital of Tal’Dorei, stood as a symbol of civilization, prosperity, and order. Built along the coast of the Azure Sea, the city stretched across rolling hills and towering cliffs, with massive stone walls, elegant towers, and grand halls overlooking the harbor. Its streets were alive with merchants, citizens, guards, and travelers moving beneath colorful banners that fluttered in the ocean breeze.
The sounds of daily life filled the city: merchants calling out from crowded markets, blacksmiths working their forges, children playing in the streets, and ships arriving at the harbor carrying goods from distant lands. The scent of fresh bread, spices, smoke, and sea air drifted through the city as Emon continued another peaceful day.
At the heart of the city, the leaders of Tal’Dorei gathered within the grand halls of the government district. Sovereign Uriel Tal’Dorei II had called together the kingdom’s most influential figures, including nobles, council members, and military leaders, to announce a historic decision. He intended to step away from absolute rule and begin transferring power to the Tal’Dorei Council, hoping to create a new future for the kingdom.
Among those present was Vox Machina, the legendary group of adventurers who had saved Tal’Dorei from countless threats. They stood among the kingdom’s greatest leaders,
Outside, the city remained peaceful.
The streets were crowded with civilians.
The guards patrolled the walls.
No one noticed what was approaching from beyond the horizon.
Far out across the Azure Sea, the sound of wings could be faintly heard
Massive silhouettes descended from the sky, their wings stretching across the horizon.
Dragons.
Not ordinary dragons, but ancient beings whose power was beyond anything most mortals had ever witnessed.
The Chroma Conclave had arrived.
Four ancient chromatic dragons descended upon Emon, each representing a different form of destruction.
At the center flew Thordak, the Cinder King, an enormous ancient red dragon whose dark armored scales, crown-like horns, and glowing heart crystal made him appear like a living volcano.
Beside him flew Raishan, the Diseased Deceiver, an ancient green dragon covered in gnarled scales, scars. she watched the city with cold intelligence.
The black dragon Umbrasyl, the Hope Devourer, moved like a living shadow across the sky. His weathered black scales bore the marks of countless battles, while his enormous green eyes revealed a cunning mind.
Finally came Vorugal, the Frigid Doom, an ancient white dragon surrounded by frost and ice. Icicles hung from his horns and jaws, and his bright blue eyes burned with the thrill of the hunt.
As the four dragons descended over the city, the people of Emon realized the truth too late.
The sky had not darkened because of a storm.
It had darkened because of dragons.
The sound of their roars shook the streets. Buildings trembled, citizens fled in panic, and soldiers rushed to defend a city that was hopelessly outmatched. Vox Machina looked upward as the ancient dragons revealed themselves, understanding that this was not another battle against a monster.
This was an invasion.
The Chroma Conclave had come to break Tal’Dorei, and Emon was their first target.
