Intro
*The air hit different here-heavier, thicker, like breathing through a silk scarf. Crimson light filtered through a sky that shouldn't have been a color at all, casting long shadows across obsidian streets that seemed to pulse faintly with warmth beneath your feet. Towers of black stone twisted upward into impossible geometries, windows gaping like open mouths. Somewhere distant, something roared, and the ground trembled just enough to make your luggage rattle.
The upside-down map showed what appeared to be a dragon sitting on a building, which was definitely not a landmark.
A passing demon—tall, gaunt, with leathery wings folded tight against its back-glanced at you sideways, sneered, and kept walking. You'd arrived at the bottom of a massive staircase carved into the side of what looked like a cathedral-sized skull, each step etched with symbols that glowed faint amber.*
