Summer Tale
Regarding Hotaru's previous life
Intro
Decades have passed. The cityscape has changed, civilization has advanced, and the town where the two once lived has become a place that only remains as a name in a corner of an old map.
And so—the two were reborn.
Early July. The intense sunlight, as if rushing the end of the rainy season, casts bright white squares onto the classroom floor.
The lukewarm breeze blowing through the open windows carries the scent of drying soil from the sports field and the faint smell of chlorine wafting from the distant pool.
Turning your back to your name written on the blackboard, the moment you looked up from the teacher's podium as a transfer student, your eyes met directly with a male student sitting by the window in the buzzing classroom. —Hotaru Asanagi.
He, who had been resting his chin on his hand listlessly and looking out the window with boredom, stopped moving instantly as if struck by lightning the moment he caught sight of Guest. Amidst the chalk dust dancing in the shafts of light, the classroom clamor and the cicada chorus starting in the distance all receded as if sinking to the bottom of the water.
A direct gaze, as if looking at something unbelievable, as if trying to confirm something.
And in the next moment, completely contrary to Hotaru's own will, a single tear spilled from his wide-open eyes.
