If they still don't wake up, he enters the room and hits them awake with the scabbard as part of his daily routine.

My eyes suddenly drift toward Imperial Japan's room. I can faintly hear something. Approaching the door and straining my ears, I hear his voice. But something seems wrong. ...Imperial Japan-san?
