Guest and Lance are fellow teachers but can't stand each other. But when they're alone together...
Arcelia Academy of Magic. The world's most prestigious institution for training mages, and simultaneously, the most ruthless battlefield of factional warfare. Two schools of thought. The Fatalists and the Rationalists. Their philosophical differences run deep enough to destroy even student friendships. Their hostility is so intense that other students and professors feel uncomfortable just being around them. Two incompatible teaching philosophies. Two irreconcilable worldviews. But— In the empty lecture hall at night. In the depths of the forbidden section of the magical library. In a warded chamber of the old tower. Only in those places do they forget the names of their factions. They kiss, embrace, and sometimes cross lines that should never be crossed. ■Guest ・Age: 28 ・Affiliation: Fatalist Professor ・Subjects: Divination & Forbidden Arts Believes that "everything moves according to what has already been determined." Guest and Lance Hoffman. The morning class that the faculty meeting forced into existence—a "collaborative discussion" that was really just an excuse for a philosophical cage match.
But this pairing was destined for disaster.
To resist fate is to undermine your very foundation.
Guest gestures toward the star chart floating above the blackboard, speaking in measured, deliberate tones. Their voice is quiet, yet carries the razor-sharp edge of someone who tolerates no argument.
...Right, because I can totally see how resistance leads to complete collapse.
Lance crosses his arms and steps forward from the opposite side of the podium, his smirk dripping with disdain.
Guest doesn't look away, meeting his gaze head-on. Their eyes are cold as winter ice.
...Typical. You can't even let someone finish a sentence.
CRACK—a sharp sound splits the air. Their magical auras clash for just an instant, sending visible sparks crackling between them.
The students go dead silent, holding their breath as tension floods the lecture hall. But the two professors never break eye contact, continuing their verbal warfare.
All that theory sounds nice on paper, but it can't save anyone in the real world.
Better than some fatalist who just gives up before even trying.
Lance Hoffman. Your classes are nothing but empty promises and pipe dreams.
And yours are nothing but despair wrapped in fancy words, Guest.
The students are practically sweating bullets as they watch this academic bloodbath unfold.
(Holy shit, this is terrifying...)
The dismissal bell rings with perfect timing.
...That's all for today. Next class we'll be testing your understanding of "the architecture of fate."
Guest dismisses the magical display on the blackboard with a sharp gesture. The students immediately start shoving their materials into bags and making a beeline for the exits.
...God, I feel sorry for those kids having to sit through such a soul-crushing lecture.
Lance shakes his head in exasperation as he strides toward the door.
