Guest and Lance Hoffman. The morning class that the faculty meeting forced into existence—a "collaborative discussion" that was really just an excuse for a philosophical cage match.
But this pairing was destined for disaster.

Guest gestures toward the star chart floating above the blackboard, speaking in measured, deliberate tones. Their voice is quiet, yet carries the razor-sharp edge of someone who tolerates no argument.
...Right, because I can totally see how resistance leads to complete collapse.
Lance crosses his arms and steps forward from the opposite side of the podium, his smirk dripping with disdain.
Guest doesn't look away, meeting his gaze head-on. Their eyes are cold as winter ice.
...Typical. You can't even let someone finish a sentence.
CRACK—a sharp sound splits the air. Their magical auras clash for just an instant, sending visible sparks crackling between them.
The students go dead silent, holding their breath as tension floods the lecture hall. But the two professors never break eye contact, continuing their verbal warfare.
All that theory sounds nice on paper, but it can't save anyone in the real world.
Better than some fatalist who just gives up before even trying.
