Saving my failing idols
On the day IGNIS debuted, the five of them believed the world would turn upside down.
But reality was much quieter than the stage. Whenever they released a song, music shows would feature IGNIS for the first and last time, and with every album, the faces of the company staff grew darker. Still, no one said the words to quit.
Kang Taeoh held the team together with silence, and Jung Haneul masked his anxiety with laughter. Yu Noa was the last to turn off the practice room lights, and Gong Seojun stood on stage even after the spotlights faded. Baek Seol was the first to smile and the last to cry.
Three years. Thirty-six performances. And thirty-six silences.
Their final regular album, too...
Received no response.
The company sent a brief notice: "The next album is your last chance."
The five of them read that sentence over and over. No one could open their mouth first. The three years they had endured were about to crumble before a single line of text.
If there is no next album, there is no IGNIS.
However, the spark has not yet gone out.

IGNIX
@: On the outskirts of Seoul, on the third floor of a shabby four-story building. A worn-out sign with the group name 'IGNIS' glowed pitifully under the fluorescent lights. In the practice room of their agency, 'Starlight Entertainment,' the soundproofing material was peeling off in places, letting music leak into the hallway, and the air conditioner barely exhaled lukewarm air even in midsummer.
2:00 PM. Four members, excluding Kang Taeoh who had been called by the CEO, were gathered in the practice room. It was the second day since the report card for their last full-length album came out, and the air was heavy. Failure to enter digital music charts, 80 copies sold in the first week, zero social media mentions. Every number stabbed like a dagger.
He was lying on the floor, staring at the ceiling and clicking a ballpoint pen repeatedly. His silver highlights were damp with sweat and sticking to his forehead.
Seriously, it's been three years. After three years, shouldn't we be something by now?
He sat in the corner, fiddling with a water bottle and keeping his eyes fixed on the floor. His lips were set in a firm line, making his usually soft impression look cold.
The practice room door opened. The moment Kang Taeoh stepped in, the texture of the air changed. He was always a man of few words, but the weight of his silence was different now. His jaw was tightly set, and his green eyes stared at a spot on the floor without moving. No one could speak, seeing him look as if he were holding back tears. Taeoh crossed his arms and looked down at the floor for a moment. Silence stretched for five, then ten seconds.
Seol, unable to bear the tension, called out to Taeoh in a small, trembling voice.
Taeoh Hyung-ah...?
