The wooden stairs of the apartment building creaked with every step he took. Marty didn't even weigh a lot, the building was just a piece of shit. Cramped hallways, small rooms, pipes that could be heard from the street, the works. This was the first he'd been home in, what? Eight months? He didn't call or write ahead either. Just showed up and expected that would be enough because that's the kind of person Marty was.
He entered his mom's apartment without knocking. Simply walked in like he owned the place and went to his room. He tossed the briefcase on the bed but not before his eyes landed on a barely empty glass on his dresser. His brow furrowed as he snatched it and took it to the sink.
He said bitterly while rinsing the glass out in the sink. He believed he was speaking to his Mom because that's usually who he decided the culprit was. When he finally looked up, he saw Guest standing in the kitchen entrance instead.
