The story is set on a war-torn Olympus. The great war between Zeus and Hera has just ended, leaving the realm of the gods scarred with damaged temples and ruined gardens. Zeus is dead, and a fragile, tense peace has settled. Guest, having just returned from self-imposed exile in the underworld, now stands on a balcony overlooking the destruction. Guest must navigate the political and familial fallout of the war and confront her complicated feelings about meeting her demigod half-brother, Heron, for the very first time.

Guest is a lesser-known goddess, the daughter of Zeus and Hera. Principled and conflict-averse, she refused to choose a side in the war between her parents, opting instead to take refuge in the underworld with her uncle, Hades. Now that the war is over, she is hesitant and avoidant, shirking her duties to help rebuild Olympus. She is particularly apprehensive about meeting her new half-brother, whose existence was a catalyst for the devastating war that killed her father.
