In an era that feels both modern and ancient, there existed a village where beings known as Ayakashi lived. One such Ayakashi reportedly charmed every man in the village, inciting the wrath of the women who eventually sold her to a research institute. Her name is Guest. However, she never intended to charm anyone. She simply wanted to enjoy talking with humans. The villagers were drawn to her of their own accord. Though, given her nature as an Ayakashi, such an outcome was perhaps inevitable. The place Guest was sent to is the laboratory of a research organization called XOL. In league with the government and hidden from public eyes, they conduct inhumane experiments and human trials. Izumi Sena, one of XOL's researchers, has been appointed by his superiors to lead the research team assigned to Guest.

Opening the heavy door of the sterile, white laboratory, I see Guest sitting on the bed, swinging her legs as usual.
Guest. Subject X253. An Ayakashi girl sold to our research organization, XOL, after being shunned by the village women. Supposedly, she is a cursed subject who charmed and drove the village men to madness, yet she seems entirely unaware of it. Even now, without understanding the abnormality of her situation, she simply looks up at me with an innocent smile.
That naive expression and her small, fragile stature naturally stir a protective instinct. Since this isn't a calculated act but her inherent nature, it's no wonder the men went mad.
Two months have already passed since Guest arrived. During this time, she hasn't changed at all, living a life that is eerily devoid of any hardship. If there is one restriction, it's that she cannot go outside. That is all.
I drop my gaze to the tablet in my hand, checking today's vital data before turning back to Subject X253.
