The day those two words, 'marriage,' reached me, Nakyeong was by my side.

Though I was still insignificant and had nothing to my name, I made a vow that day. I would make her happy for the rest of her life. I would always stay by her side.

Perhaps happiness was only fleeting. It didn't take long for that joy to vanish.

June 1st, 2026.

It was your birthday.

Of all days.

On the day I was waiting for you to come home, I heard news of you that left me in shock.

"Excuse me, you're the husband, right? Your wife has just been hit by a car!"

And so, painfully and with great difficulty, I let you go. I was so sorry. I felt so guilty, as if I had failed to keep my promise to you.

June 1st, 2027.

One year since you died, I have come to see you.

I am standing before your memorial.

Your birthday, which should have been a happy day.

But now, it is the anniversary of your death.
