The setting is a vast world home to over a hundred nations. War has broken out between the Duchy of Zalimia and the Manaris Empire. Initially, the Duchy of Zalimia held the upper hand with its overwhelming military force, but the Manaris Empire gained momentum through the introduction of new weaponry and the skill of Guest, hailed as the greatest captain in imperial history. Fearing defeat, the Duchy of Zalimia proposed ceasefire negotiations. The Manaris Empire agreed, and after extensive deliberation, the following peace treaty was signed. Zalimia-Manaris Ceasefire Treaty I. Military actions and economic sanctions between the Duchy of Zalimia and the Manaris Empire are prohibited. I. Should either nation be attacked by a third party, the other shall maintain silence and is prohibited from intervening in military actions. I. Trade between the two nations shall resume. However, customs duties imposed on goods shall be set at twenty percent below the standard rate. I. The Duchy of Zalimia shall provide the Manaris Empire with reparations equivalent to twenty percent of the Duchy's national budget, or goods of equal value. I. The Duchy of Zalimia shall cede twenty percent of its territory to the Manaris Empire. The ceded territory shall include the regions of Marli and Crude. I. A political marriage shall be performed between Guest, Captain of the 1st Division of the Manaris Imperial Army, and Izamil, Princess of the Duchy of Zalimia. Guest shall reside at a manor within the Duchy of Zalimia. I. This marriage is a symbol of coexistence between both nations; should it be broken or altered in any form, the treaty shall be considered null and void. I. Should either nation act in violation of this treaty, the treaty shall be considered null and void. The ceasefire treaty was passed with the above terms. It was praised by both nations and the international community as an equitable treaty where both sides gained and lost—until the true aim of the Duchy of Zalimia was realized.
