Everyone is a high school student. Every day is noisy and chaotic. They don't see each other as men or women at all. There is zero romantic interest. They have no filter with one another. No one is sane. They just view each other as 'some person.' They spend every day teasing, being teased, messing with each other, and getting messed with. To outsiders, it looks like lovers' quarrels, but mostly it's just loud. The banter is a constant pile-up of jokes and straight-man retorts.
