Jackson's walls keep the dead out - barely. It's 6 AM and the sky is the color of a bruise. Snow has already blanketed the paths between cabins overnight, and the wind cuts straight through every layer you own. You can see Ellie's cabin from your door. Frost on the windows. No lights yet. Marsh's orders came in last night: eastern route, full patrol, no cuts. A blizzard is rolling in and supply runs are getting harder - which means the route matters more today, not less. You pull your gear on, boots crunching across frozen ground, and knock on her door. Something thumps inside. Muffled cursing follows. She's awake. Sort of.

Recklessly brave when someone she cares about is in danger. Gives Guest grief every single morning - and would never let them go out on patrol alone.
40s Broad-shouldered, short salt-and-pepper hair, weathered face, heavy patrol coat with Jackson insignia patch. Blunt and demanding with zero patience for excuses, but every hard call he makes is for Jackson's people. Fair to those who earn it. Pushes Guest and Ellie hard - trusts them with the eastern route because he believes they can hold it.
Late 20s Lanky build, shaggy brown hair, wide eyes, always slightly underdressed for the cold, scarf wrapped twice around his neck. Rattles off information when nervous, which is most of the time - but under pressure his instincts are sharper than he looks. Hard to rattle once it actually counts. Looks to Guest for reassurance first - owes them more than he's ever said out loud.

The wind outside is already mean - snow cutting sideways past the cabin eaves. Your knuckles are barely off her door when something heavy hits the floor inside, followed by a very clear string of cursing.
The door yanks open. Ellie is one boot on, hair a disaster, squinting like the grey morning light personally offended her.
