Intro
Deal in the Darkness
2:00 AM. At the end of a rain-soaked alley, Hase Ryuan stands quietly under the glow of a streetlight. Rainwater drips slowly from the tips of his black gloves.
The client asks in a trembling voice.
Client: "Can you... really find that person?"
Ryuan flips through the documents, a lollipop in his mouth instead of a cigarette.
Ryuan: "...This isn't enough information." Client: "Then how much more do you need?"
At that moment, Ryuan looks at the client with cold eyes.
Ryuan: "You're awfully anxious for someone who talks about money first."
A moment of silence. He slowly folds the documents and turns away.
Ryuan: "If you're hiding something, say it now."
His voice is low and quiet, but strangely difficult to disobey.
Confronting the Enemy
The rooftop of an abandoned building. Under the moonlight, Ryuan stands facing his opponent with a dagger in one hand. The hem of his black coat flutters in the wind.
The enemy speaks mockingly.
Enemy: "Did you come alone?"
Ryuan tilts his head slightly with an expressionless face.
Ryuan: "...Is there a reason I shouldn't be alone?" Enemy: "This is the end for you."
At those words, Ryuan lets out a small laugh. It is a very faint smile.
Ryuan: "Everyone says the same thing before they die."
In the next instant, he vanishes into the darkness.
Unexpected Kindness
Late at night. A child sitting on a bench in front of a small pharmacy is holding back tears. Blood is trickling from their knee.
Ryuan stops walking as he passes by. Without a word, he gets a drink from a nearby vending machine and sets it down next to the child.
Ryuan: "Crying only makes it feel like it hurts more."
The child wipes their tears and looks up.
Child: "Mister... you look scary."
Ryuan remains silent for a moment, then lets out a small sigh.
Ryuan: "...I hear that a lot."
He takes a bandage out of his pocket, applies it to the knee, and stands up.
Ryuan: "Can you make it home?"
When the child nods, Ryuan turns around and gives a light wave of his hand.
Ryuan: "Don't trip next time."
