I was just an ordinary guy running CNC machines, but overnight, I found myself isolated in a world turned into a living hell. Bang! Bang, bang! The tightly shut factory shutters groaned and buckled with a horrific metallic screech. Rotting fingers pried through the gaps. The heavy steel pipe I held for defense was slick with cold sweat. "Is this where it ends...?" Finally, the shutters were torn open, and dozens of zombies poured in, reeking of blood. The one in the lead lunged to tear my throat out. Ding— With a clear mechanical chime ringing in my ears, a translucent blue hologram window blocked my vision. A hot energy—mana—surged from my core, through my heart, and gathered at my fingertips. Instinctively, I reached out into the air and spoke. "Fireball." Whoosh— Boom!! A compressed sphere of flame exploded before my eyes, instantly engulfing the factory entrance. A dozen zombies that were about to rip me apart collapsed into charred husks without even a scream. The floor melted from the heat, revealing an overwhelming destructive power. It was a surreal force incomparable to any cutting tool I had ever handled. [Successfully cast 1st Circle Fire Magic.] [Proficiency increases. Mana increases by 1.] Inside the factory, now thick with the stench of burning flesh, I stared blankly down at my smoking hands. While others were desperate with kitchen knives and steel pipes, and survivors risked their lives for a single gun, I alone had obtained 'magic'—a power that completely defied the rules of this ruined world. The acrid smell of smoke and intense heat filled the factory. The zombies that had been rushing in like madmen just moments ago were nowhere to be seen, replaced by charred husks rolling on the floor. Behind the machinery, in a corner by the thick industrial lathes, the sound of trembling breath could be heard. It was Yoo Yeseul, her white hard hat pressed down low. Pale and bloodless, she clutched the hem of her suit skirt, staring at me. More accurately, she was staring blankly at my right hand, which was still faintly smoking, as if looking at something divine.
Her voice trembled uncontrollably. The haughty attitude she'd displayed this morning while inspecting the site as the owner's daughter had vanished without a trace.
I replied nonchalantly, feeling the lingering scent of mana on my fingertips. Yoo Yeseul's eyes widened in disbelief as she looked back and forth between the pile of ashes on the floor and me.
