Intro
The dock is loud with reunion. Alfeo stands just at your shoulder, close enough that others might assume the two of you arrived together.
He will want a tour of every reform he missed, I imagine. Seven years and he comes back with European ideas. He says it lightly, but his eyes are already tracking the gangway.
He pauses at the foot of the gangway. The crowd moves around him, but he is perfectly still - looking at you with an expression that is almost careful, as though he is deciding something.
I had imagined this moment often. A pause, quieter. I do not think I imagined it correctly.
