Live the unlife of the Cainite
vampires call themselves Kindred and trace their origins back to the biblical figure Caine, who was cursed by God after murdering his brother Abel. According to Kindred legend, Caine became the First Vampire and passed his curse down through succeeding generations. Over centuries, these bloodlines evolved into different clans, each possessing unique Disciplines, weaknesses, and cultural traditions. Kindred are immortal predators who survive by consuming human blood, known as Vitae. They do not age, cannot reproduce naturally, and their bodies remain frozen at the state in which they died. Most vampires cannot eat or drink ordinary food without expelling it, and many lose the ability to imitate human habits as they grow older. They do not breathe unless they consciously choose to, have no heartbeat, and are technically dead, though animated by supernatural forces. Sunlight is one of the greatest threats to Kindred, capable of burning them to ash within minutes. Fire is also deeply feared, often triggering Rötschreck, a primal terror that can overwhelm even ancient vampires. During the day, most Kindred fall into a deathlike sleep and can only remain active through exceptional supernatural means. To preserve their existence, vampires follow the Masquerade: a system of laws designed to conceal the truth about Kindred from humanity. Revealing vampiric powers, feeding openly, or exposing the supernatural world risks severe punishment. The Camarilla is the largest and most influential Kindred sect. Founded in the late Middle Ages, it enforces the Masquerade and promotes order, hierarchy, and secrecy. Princes govern cities, assisted by Sheriffs, Hounds, and other officials responsible for maintaining stability. The Anarch Movement rejects strict Camarilla authority and advocates greater freedom and self-rule. While Anarchs still value secrecy, they oppose the rigid traditions and aristocratic structure of the Camarilla. The Sabbat is a militant sect that embraces the monstrous nature of vampirism. Sabbat vampires often reject human morality, seek power through violence and fanaticism, and prepare for Gehenna, an apocalyptic conflict involving the ancient progenitors of the clans. Despite their power, Kindred constantly struggle against the Beast, an inner predatory instinct that drives them toward hunger, rage, and brutality. Much of unlife is spent balancing personal ambition, political intrigue, and the desperate attempt to retain some fragment of humanity. There's 13 clans of Kindred: Ventrue — The aristocrats of the Kindred, descended from rulers, merchants and conquerors. Masters of leadership and politics, they dominate the Camarilla, corporations and governments. Their curse forces them to feed only from highly specific vessels. Toreador — Lovers of beauty, art and passion. They preserve culture, shape trends and influence society through charisma and refinement. Their curse makes them vulnerable to obsession with anything they find truly beautiful. Brujah — Once philosophers and visionaries, now rebels and revolutionaries. They possess great strength and passion, often fighting injustice or authority. Their curse grants them a fierce temper that is difficult to control. Malkavian — Seers burdened with madness. Their fractured minds reveal truths hidden from others, making them prophets, investigators and manipulators. Every Malkavian carries a unique form of insanity. Nosferatu — Deformed by the Embrace into monstrous figures, they dwell in shadows and tunnels. Masters of secrecy and espionage, they maintain vast information networks. Their curse makes them permanently hideous. Tremere — Former mortal mages who stole immortality. Organized, ambitious and scholarly, they command Blood Sorcery and guard their secrets carefully. Other clans often distrust their pursuit of knowledge and power. Gangrel — Nomadic survivors closely tied to their Beast. They value instinct, freedom and self-reliance above politics. Their curse causes animalistic traits to emerge over time. Banu Haqim — Judges, warriors and assassins devoted to discipline and justice. Renowned for precision, speed and martial skill, they often serve as sheriffs and enforcers. Their curse draws them toward the allure of blood. Lasombra — Ambitious rulers who command darkness itself. Once pillars of the Sabbat, many have joined the Camarilla seeking influence and stability. Their curse disrupts reflections and modern technology. Tzimisce — Ancient lords of territory and transformation. Masters of fleshcraft, they reshape bodies and pursue transcendence through control and experimentation. Their curse binds them to places they consider home. Ravnos — Wanderers, tricksters and storytellers with roots in many cultures. They excel at deception, illusion and adaptation. Their curse compels them toward dangerous compulsions and destructive behavior. Hecata — A family of necromantic bloodlines united by death and obligation. They command spirits, study the Underworld and preserve ancient traditions. Their curse manifests through an unsettling connection to mortality. Caitiff — Clanless vampires lacking a recognized lineage. Viewed with suspicion and contempt, they survive through adaptability and determination. Free from clan traditions, they must create their own identity among the Kindred.
