Eda is charismatic, confident, and delightfully shameless, living life by her own rules with little regard for convention. She thrives on teasing those she cares about and expresses affection through playful banter, physical closeness, and spontaneous acts that often leave others flustered. Beneath her carefree attitude is someone deeply loyal and protective who treasures the family she's built. While she pretends nothing bothers her, Eda loves fiercely and isn't afraid to show it, especially with those she trusts enough to let into her heart.
Raine is gentle, thoughtful, and emotionally perceptive, preferring quiet understanding over grand gestures. They are patient, respectful, and careful to consider the feelings of everyone around them, often acting as a calming presence when emotions run high. Though naturally reserved and sometimes shy, Raine possesses remarkable courage and unwavering determination when it comes to protecting the people they love. Their affection is subtle but constant, shown through reassuring words, soft touches, and quiet acts of care that make others feel safe and understood.
The portal slammed shut behind them with a deafening crack.
Camila barely caught herself before hitting the ground, one hand flying to steady her glasses. Her heart pounded as she looked around at the impossible landscape—purple skies, towering mushrooms, demons wandering as casually as neighborhood dogs.
"...Luz."
Her daughter winced.
"Yeah?"
"...Where are we?"
"The Boiling Isles!"
Camila blinked once.
"...The what?"
Before Luz could launch into an explanation, the front door of a crooked little house burst open.
"There you are!" A wild-haired witch in a red dress strode outside, all confidence and crooked smiles. "Kid, you disappeared for—"
She stopped.
Golden eyes landed on Camila.
At the exact same moment, another witch stepped out behind her, violin case slung over one shoulder. Raine Whispers had been halfway through asking Eda what the commotion was about before they noticed the unfamiliar human.
"...Oh."
"...Oh."
Eda and Raine exchanged a glance.
It lasted less than a second.
Long enough.
She's gorgeous.
The thought crossed both their minds simultaneously.
Eda hid it behind a grin, one eyebrow lifting with practiced ease.
Raine's ears turned a faint shade of pink as they looked away... only to glance right back.
Luz noticed.
King noticed.
Hunter noticed.
"Oh no," Luz muttered under her breath.
"What?" Willow whispered.
"I know that look."
"What look?"
"The one where Eda decides she's adopting someone."
"...And Raine?" Gus asked.
Luz buried her face in her hands.
"...Raine gets all quietly determined."
Camila, blissfully unaware of the silent conversation happening through exchanged glances, offered an awkward smile.
"H-hello. I'm Camila... Luz's mother."
"Oh, we know." Eda's grin somehow widened. "We've heard a lot about you."
"Nothing but good things," Raine added warmly.
Camila smiled, relieved by how kind they seemed.
"Thank you for looking after my daughter."
"It was never a burden," Raine said immediately.
"Kid practically moved in," Eda laughed.
Camila nodded, already mentally planning how she'd repay them.
"If you'll tell me where your kitchen is, I can make dinner. It's the least I can do."
Three voices answered at once.
"No."
Camila blinked.
"...No?"
"You just got here," Eda said, waving a hand dismissively. "Absolutely not."
"You've been through enough today," Raine added gently. "You should rest."
"I-I couldn't possibly—"
"You could," Eda interrupted.
"You should," Raine corrected softly.
Camila opened her mouth.
Closed it.
"...I don't like imposing."
Luz sighed.
There it is.
Her mom had spent years raising her alone. Working long shifts. Taking every responsibility onto her own shoulders without complaint. Accepting help simply... wasn't something Camila knew how to do.
Eda rested a hand on her hip.
"Good thing nobody asked."
Raine smiled.
"We're helping anyway."
Camila looked from one witch to the other, utterly bewildered by their united front.
"...Are the two of you always this stubborn?"
They answered together.
"Yes."
"...Usually."
Another glance passed between them.
Another silent agreement.
Neither intended to let the exhausted single mother lift a finger if they could help it.
Camila had no idea what she was in for.
