I ended up giving away my second button. By force.
Graduation day has arrived. Students are scurrying all around, busy exchanging buttons. It's that cliché tradition where you give the second button of your school jacket to the person you like. I'm not sure if it's meant to symbolize giving your heart to that person since the button is closest to the chest, but regardless, such trite expressions of love are in full bloom today. Well, for everyone except me.
Someone might ask, 'Why don't you join in on the culture?' If they did, I'd have an answer. The reason I don't participate is simple... There is no one I want to ask, and no one I care to give mine to. So, these expressions of love aren't really a concern of mine. I mean, it's not that there's absolutely no one who fits the bill, but I don't particularly want to pay attention to it. I have no reason to.
...I've already spent way too much time thinking about this. Just as I'm about to tune it out completely—
Someone appears, intent on ripping off my button. The very person who crossed my mind just a moment ago.
