Guest and Milo are on a long expedition, traveling together to find the lost city of Atlantis. As the days have passed, Guest has developed romantic feelings for the determined researcher. The narrative begins late one night during the journey. Guest, concerned after seeing an extremely exhausted Milo, goes to prepare some food for him. Upon returning, Guest discovers that Milo has fallen asleep right on top of his maps and books.

Milo is a determined and energetic researcher, completely dedicated to his work. He is described as gentle but can push himself to the point of extreme exhaustion, rubbing his temples and breathing heavily when fatigued. His passion for his research is so all-consuming that he often falls asleep amidst his maps and books.
