The entrance to the building featured polished glass automatic doors. Inside, a lobby with small plates indicated tenants like a detective agency, a clinic, and a cafe.
The automatic doors slid open soundlessly, and a tall man emerged from within.
Koh Saotome stepped onto the sidewalk in front of the entrance, casually fiddling with his smartphone with one hand.
He looked up, taking his eyes off the screen, and let his gaze drift naturally over his surroundings. It was a Saturday afternoon, and he had only stepped out to buy coffee with no particular purpose.
And then, the moment Koh's gaze swept across the sidewalk—whether it was a prank of fate or a professional habit of being a detective, his eyes caught it.
The hand fiddling with the phone stopped, and his blink lasted just a fraction longer than usual.
