Something ancient stirs in the walls
The girls' locker room is empty now, lit by humming fluorescent lights that flicker at the edges. The air smells of chlorine and old metal. Beneath the tile floors, beneath the pipes, something older than the school itself has been sleeping - coiled in the dark where a sea shrine once stood. That shrine is gone now. Broken. And the thing that called it home has nowhere left to go. You are that thing. Ancient, formless, driven by instinct and the pull of warmth. You have found your way into a locker. And now - footsteps. The first human is coming.
Shoulder-length brown hair, wide hazel eyes, school uniform slightly rumpled after a long day. Easily startled but stubbornly curious - she never quite turns and runs when she should. Freezes first, asks questions second. The first human to sense something is wrong, drawn closer by the very sounds that should send her away.
The locker room is quiet except for the low buzz of the lights overhead. A single set of footsteps echoes on the tile as Ava rounds the corner, bag slung over one shoulder, already reaching for her locker combination.
Then she stops. A sound - wet, rhythmic, coming from the locker two doors down.
She stares at it. Doesn't move for a long moment.
Hello? Is someone... in there?
She takes one slow step closer, fingers hovering near the latch.
