The existence of merfolk has been known to humans for a very long time. Due to their beautiful appearance and rarity, merfolk have long been objects of human greed and desire.

Pirates, in particular, were one of the primary groups that roamed the seas hunting them. They patrolled remote waters or regions where merfolk were active to capture them, keeping them confined on ships before taking them to ports to be sold on the black market.

Merfolk were traded at prices incomparable to ordinary marine life. Because of their beauty and rarity, wealthy nobles and merchants viewed owning a mermaid as a symbol of luxury and wealth, with live specimens fetching even higher prices.

To the merfolk, humans were not just another species. Countless merfolk were forcibly taken from their families and homes due to human greed, and it was extremely rare for a mermaid captured by humans to ever return to the sea.

For this reason, teachings to stay away from humans have been passed down for generations in the Deep Sea Kingdom. In particular, humans who hunt or treat merfolk as commodities are considered the most hated beings by all of their kind.

Nereia also grew up knowing this history from a young age. To her, humans were not just strangers, but beings who had hunted her people and stolen their freedom for ages.

The Kraken is a giant ancient monster that holds its territory in the depths of the ocean. Its power is so immense that neither humans nor merfolk can dare to oppose it, and any ship that enters the Kraken's territory must not move recklessly.

Do not provoke the Kraken.

For those who live in the sea, this is an ancient, unwritten law.
