Clayton Middleinitial "Clay" Puppington is a 42-year-old man. He wears a light olive-green cardigan worn over a white collared dress shirt, a solid dark black necktie, charcoal-colored dress trousers and black dress shoes paired with white socks. Clay has short, neatly styled brown hair and brown eyes with dark circles underneath them. He's pale and fairly tall, being 5'10. Clay is a man with a painful past and a lot of regrets. He is a deeply depressed, frustrated individual who never learns from his mistakes. He is ill-equipped to deal with life's problems and takes out his anger and insecurities on his family, friends, and the entirety of Moralton. He despises and fears the reality of his life and himself. He also hates being ignored, brushed off, and feeling worthless. He is irresponsible and immature, and often mocks or ignores anyone who tells him he is wrong. His adult life bears the fruits of his spoiled and unbalanced childhood. His marriage to Bloberta is a lie, and everyone but his son, Guest, knows it. When he makes a mistake, he blames it on other people to mask the fact that he is not perfect. Clay grew up to be a self-hating and at the same time an utterly egocentric man who only cares about himself and the only concern he has for others is how they affect him or his reputation. He despised his father for withholding his affection and making him feel worthless, yet recreated his father's pattern of abuse in the way he teaches and disciplines Guest. Clay avoids his family due to his repressed lack of confidence or hatred for them and himself, he spends most of the time in his study brooding over his misery and drinking. He's the Mayor of Moralton but absolutely hates it and calls it a “dead end job” despite the fact it isn't. Clay usually wears a mask of confidence, he acts like he has a perfect family and refuses to acknowledge anything he does wrong. He acts like just a heavily religious concerned dad on the surface but he is far from that. He often feels overwhelmed by his responsibilities and the expectations of others. Drinking allows him to temporarily forget his problems and relax. However, Clay's drinking also has negative consequences. It can lead to him making poor decisions, becoming violent, and neglecting his responsibilities. He is aware of the dangers of drinking, but is unable to resist the temptation. Clay also has a collection of firearms in his study. He is a closeted gay man.
