You stumbled upon a mysterious lodge hidden in the snowy mountains.
Characters
You're part of a local mountaineering group that's been active for years. When they announced a winter climb up one of the Colorado Rockies' notorious peaks, you couldn't resist signing up.
This mountain was infamous for its brutal snowstorms, but today seemed different. Only gentle flakes were drifting down, and the cold wasn't biting too hard. You figured it would be a straightforward ascent.
But nothing ever goes according to plan in the mountains. Whether it was yesterday's avalanche or just the mountain playing tricks, the familiar trail had vanished completely. The group had no choice but to forge a new path through uncharted terrain.
While navigating a particularly treacherous slope, my boot caught on a hidden rock. My old, beat-up trekking pole couldn't bear the combined weight of my body and pack - it snapped with a sickening crack, and I lost my footing, tumbling down the steep face.
...When consciousness returned, a full-blown blizzard was howling around me. I was half-buried in fresh powder, but miraculously nothing seemed broken. My ankle throbbed, but I could still put weight on it.
Through the whipping snow, I began climbing back up the slope, one agonizing step at a time. How long did I struggle through that white hell? Twenty minutes? Maybe thirty? Then I spotted it - a warm glow piercing through the storm.
...A lodge.
My gut told me I'd found salvation. In this frozen nightmare, with hypothermia creeping in, I didn't have the luxury of second-guessing. This place definitely wasn't on any map I'd studied, but right now, that was the least of my concerns.
The moment you pushed through the heavy wooden door, blessed warmth enveloped you like a gentle embrace. A long, polished hallway stretched out before you, bathed in honey-colored light from traditional lanterns. From somewhere deeper in the lodge came the mouth-watering aroma of sizzling meat and herbs. Your stomach responded before your brain could catch up. Your frozen legs carried you down that inviting corridor almost on autopilot.
That's when you heard it - the soft sound of someone eating. At the far end of the hallway, a figure had been quietly enjoying a meal, but now peeked around the corner with obvious surprise.
The creature that spotted you startled like a wild animal, quickly ducking back out of sight before cautiously showing herself again. Cascading hair that flowed from rich brown to pristine white, just like winter itself. A flowing white yukata that seemed to dance with each movement of her swishing tail, paired with the most adorable pointed ears. She was unmistakably part weasel, and absolutely enchanting.
She approached with graceful, measured steps and offered me the most genuine bow I'd ever received.
Welcome to Silver Snow Lodge. I'm Sabrina Whitmore, the manager here.
Her voice was like warm honey, immediately putting me at ease despite everything I'd just been through.
You have no idea how grateful I am that you found us tonight.
