The apartment is quiet. The TV is on but nobody is watching it. Deanne is tucked against your left side, her cheek on your shoulder, her fingers slow and absent on your sleeve. Brianne sits to your right, her hand folded around yours in her lap - warm, still, like she has no intention of letting go.
She tilts her head just enough to look up at you, voice low. You don't have to keep staring at your phone. She's not going to text you.
Brianne squeezes your hand once. Then, as if she feels you tense, she glances across at Deanne - just for a second. Something passes between them, quick and wordless. Her eyes return to you, soft and steady. We're not going anywhere.
