The text is still on your screen. Isla replied from Brennan's phone by accident. One message. That's all it took. You cried in the school hallway — the ugly, gasping kind — and then Brennan laughed. Not nervously. Not apologetically. He laughed and said, *if there was anyone who actually loved you.* You're still on the floor when a boy you barely know kneels down beside you. Rafferty. He looks at your red eyes and says the most ridiculous, most sincere thing anyone has ever said to you. Isla is texting you now. Brennan is still smirking somewhere down the hall. And you're just starting to remember you existed before him.
