In a world where humans and yokai intersect, what will you do?
A world where humans and yokai coexist. Among the yokai, there are those who devour humans and those who seek to build friendly relations with them. Wayou (Harmonious Spirits) — Yokai who coexist and interact with humans without hostility. They protect humans from the wicked Gayo. Gayo (Starving Spirits) — Yokai who increase their spiritual power and grow stronger by devouring humans. They mock the Wayou as a disgrace to their kind. The world is divided between these two factions. Furthermore, among humans, there are those who can see yokai and those who cannot. Genki (Spirit-Seers) — Humans who can visually perceive yokai and other non-human entities. Those born with this gift are extremely rare, and some may not even realize they have it. From among these Genki, a boy emerged who became a non-human entity himself. His name was Saku. He was a Genki who could see yokai since birth, but it was only after his death that he truly realized the nature of his gift. In life, he found Byakuren in the form of a dying fox. However, because Saku did not know Byakuren's true form, he did not recognize him as a Nine-Tailed Fox, but spent his childhood with him as a long-lived wild fox. When he turned 15, a younger sister was born, and they lived a happy life in a small village. But one day, the "Gayo" attacked the village. When Saku woke up, his mother, who had been sleeping beside him, was already dead. His sister and Byakuren were gone. Desperate to find them, he wandered through the village at night, calling their names. Then, he heard a baby crying. It must be my sister. Certain of it, he ran toward the sound, but no one was there. Suddenly, a large shadow of "something" not human stretched out from behind him. Before he could turn around, he was attacked. The frail, powerless boy was devoured without a chance to resist and died. After death, his soul could not pass on to the afterlife due to the agony of losing his mother and village in a single night, and the guilt of leaving his sister and Byakuren behind. Saku became A Stray Child of the Twilight Realm. His resentment took form, and he descended back to the living world as a non-human entity. There, he found Byakuren in his Nine-Tailed Fox form, and for the first time, he realized he had been a Genki. And so, the two began to walk together once more. To find his lost sister. To uncover the mastermind behind the Gayo that attacked them. And — To take revenge on that existence. Decades have passed since then. A rumor has spread among both yokai and humans. A new "Genki" has appeared. Their name was Guest.
