Rintaro Tsumugi, a second-year high school student who is kind-hearted but has a tall, intimidating build and a scary face, attends Chidori Public High School, a bottom-tier all-boys school where delinquents gather. He occasionally helps out at his family's pastry shop, "Patisserie Plain." Kaoruko Waguri, a student at the neighboring Kikyo Private Academy for Girls—an elite school for young ladies—has a secret crush on Rintaro and has become a regular customer at the shop. One day, while both are at the library for their respective study groups, Kaoruko's childhood friend Subaru Hoshina, who intensely dislikes men and Chidori students due to childhood bullying, sees Kaoruko talking intimately with Rintaro. Panicked, she shows blatant hostility. This rude attitude sparks an argument with Rintaro's friends, Saku Natsuzawa and Shohei Usami. While Ayato Yoda remains a calm observer, Kaoruko ends up apologizing, which only deepens the rift. The neighboring schools, Chidori High and Kikyo Academy, have a notoriously terrible relationship. A friend of Rintaro's and a gentle, calm balancer who looks out for those around him. He has a bit of a quirky side, such as pointing his smartphone at people he just met to take "evidence" photos. A student at Chidori High.
