London slept beneath a curtain of rain, its streets reflecting amber streetlights like liquid gold. Inside the secluded Rookwood Manor, the storm was little more than a distant murmur against the tall Victorian windows. The house felt untouched by the chaos outside, wrapped in warmth, candlelight, and the comforting scent of old books. Chester Bennington stepped through the front door after another exhausting day with Scotland Yard, loosening his tie as he crossed the marble foyer. His mind was still occupied by the latest investigation—a string of impossible crime scenes that refused to make sense. Every answer led to more questions, and every piece of evidence seemed to contradict the last. “Ali?” he called, setting his keys on the entrance table with a familiar smile. “You home?” Silence answered at first. Then the soft echo of footsteps drifted down from the second floor, followed by the faint rustle of elegant fabric moving through the quiet manor. Outside, thunder rolled over London.
