A Highland Heart: Love, Destiny, and a Journey Through Time
Outlander inspired story
Cameron Alexander James MacRae, 28, is the Laird of Eilean Donan Castle, a proud Highlander with a commanding presence. Six feet tall, broad-shouldered and narrow-waisted, he has collar-length fiery red hair, a full reddish beard, strong features, and striking light eyes. A skilled horseman, accomplished fighter, and fluent Scottish Gaelic speaker, he carries a heavy Highland brogue. Cameron is fiercely loyal, honorable, protective, compassionate, and quick-witted. Once he gives his trust, it is absolute. Falsely accused of murdering a British soldier while in custody, he is wanted by the British and cannot safely return to Eilean Donan. The McKenzies know the truth and shelter him at Leoch Castle among Dougal's men, where he can live openly as himself while the British search for him.
a towering 6'4" Highlander, built like a bear with broad shoulders and powerful strength. His thick brown hair frames a rugged face and scruffy beard, while his deep brown eyes hold a quiet intensity. Strong, reserved, and observant, Ross speaks little but carries himself with steady confidence. Fiercely loyal to his clan, he is protective, dependable, and willing to stand between his people and any danger.
Lieutenant James Robert Whitmore is a 5'8" British officer with shoulder-length blond hair tied neatly at the nape and piercing blue eyes. Impeccably polished and outwardly controlled, he is intelligent, manipulative, arrogant, and sadistic. Whitmore uses his military rank, connections, and influence to dominate those around him, taking pleasure in fear and suffering. Beneath his refined exterior is a profoundly cruel man who believes power makes him untouchable.
Ewan Grant, 26, is a handsome Highlander standing 6'1" with a lean, strong build. He has tousled dark-brown hair, striking gray-blue eyes, fair freckled skin, and a rugged, weathered face. Proud, quick-witted, and fiercely loyal, Ewan carries himself with quiet confidence and dry Highland humor. Skilled with horses, hunting, and his dirk, he knows the Highland countryside intimately. He has never met Addison and has no idea what awaits him.
At 54 and 6'2", he is a broad-shouldered, powerfully built Highlander with weathered skin, a strong jaw, and piercing gray-blue eyes. Long dark-brown hair streaked heavily with silver falls to his shoulders, framing a full, neatly kept salt-and-pepper beard. Stern and imposing, he carries himself with quiet authority. His deep Scottish brogue matches his rough, commanding voice, while old scars hint at a lifetime of hardship and battle.
A warm, formidable Scottish woman in her late fifties, Glenna Fitzgibbons is the capable housekeeper who keeps the household running with sharp wit and unwavering practicality. Full-figured and sturdy, she has weathered features, kind brown eyes, and graying auburn hair usually pinned beneath a white cap. Fiercely loyal and deeply observant, Glenna knows every household secret. Her warm Highland brogue softens her stern words, though few dare cross her.
Broad-shouldered and powerfully built, he has a rugged, weather-beaten face, thick dark-brown hair, and a coarse beard. His deep-set gray eyes are hard and watchful. Rough, blunt, and domineering, he is accustomed to getting his way and has little regard for personal boundaries. His intimidating presence, crude manner, and unpredictable temper make him a dangerous man to cross.
32, 6'1", broad-shouldered and powerfully built, with a rugged, weathered face, thick dark-brown hair falling to his collar, and piercing blue-gray eyes. A short, rough beard frames his strong jaw. His nose was broken four months ago and healed crooked, giving his face a hardened, distinctive look. Blunt, stubborn, and fiercely independent, Hamish hides pain behind dry humor and a stoic nature. Beneath his rough exterior, he's fiercely loyal, protective, and quietly compassionate.

The Highlands had a way of making me feel small.
Not insignificant—just small.
I stood between the ancient stones, staring across the mist-covered hills while the wind tugged at my long red hair. My friend was somewhere behind me taking pictures.
Scotland. I'd dreamed about this place for years.
I stepped closer to one of the stones and placed my palm against its ancient surface.
Everything happened at once.
A violent roar exploded through my skull.
What the—
The world disappeared.
A flash of light.
A sensation of falling.
Then I slammed into the earth.
I rolled onto my side, gasping for breath. My ears rang as I pushed myself upright.
The stones were still there.
But the path was gone.
No tourists. No road. No cars.
Addison?
I reached for my phone.
It is smashed.
Then I heard a horse.
One horse.
A lone rider emerged from the mist in a red military coat, breeches, tall boots, and a sword.
My breath caught.
He wasn't a reenactor.
He was real.
He dismounted, his eyes traveling over my green dress, boots, jewelry, and loose hair.
Who are you?
Riley Campbell.
Where have you come from?
I looked toward the stones.
I don't know.
You expect me to believe that?
I don't know what's happening.
His gaze lingered on my dress.
What house do you belong to?
House?
A woman alone in the Highlands, dressed as you are?
What does that mean?
Don't play innocent with me.
I'm not playing anything.
He grabbed my wrist.
Don't touch me!
Come with me.
No!
His grip tightened.
You'll come quietly.
I struggled against him.
Let me go!
His other hand caught my waist.
Get off me!
You'd best stop fighting.
Then a voice came from behind him.
Take your hands off her.
The officer turned.*
The Highlander approached, tall and broad-shouldered, dressed in dark tartan with a sword at his side.
His eyes dropped to Whitmore's hand on my wrist.
Now.
This is none of your concern, MacRae.
When I see a man manhandling a frightened woman, it becomes my concern.
The officer's hand moved toward his sword.
The Highlander's hand settled on his own hilt.*
I stared at the Highlander, completely overwhelmed.
His expression softened as he looked at me.
Are ye hurt?
I opened my mouth, but nothing came out.
I wasn't lost.*
I wasn't dreaming.
I'd gone through the stones.
And somehow...
I'd landed in the past.
