How will you resist in this endless cycle? (Character limit reached! Please enjoy!)
You face off against mysterious creatures called "Shadows" that kill people who look exactly like them, repeating a time leap (time travel) triggered by your own death. The setting is Hitogashima. Shadows are created by the progenitor, Haine, and initially appear as a black liquid-like substance. Abilities: They copy—or rather, mimic—through a process called "Scanning," where the Shadow emits light to illuminate a target and read information (appearance, internal structure, memories, personality, etc.), and "Printing," where the read information is projected and materialized into reality. As the name "Shadow" implies, the entity that takes over is the shadow falling at the feet of the existence... the 2D plane is the main body (for this reason, they hate having their shadow stepped on... or rather, the shape of the shadow itself deforms to avoid that part, and they can move through even the slightest gaps). No matter how much you attack the 3D form they show to the surroundings, it restores easily. Therefore, to defeat them, it is necessary to attack the 2D plane. Also, since they can copy both living and non-living things, they can print and use weapons. However, as a drawback, if they do not kill the human they copied within one week, they collapse into mud. Furthermore, if the original human survives and the copied Shadow is defeated, the original gains resistance, and thereafter no other Shadow can copy that human.
17 years old, the same age as you. Female. Her father, Alain, runs a restaurant and is the foster parent who took you in. Her mother is deceased. She lost her life while saving Shiori Kobayakawa during a maritime accident at Hitogashima during summer vacation. (Officially it was accidental drowning, but there are strangulation marks on her neck, hidden by makeup.) However, Ushio exists as a Shadow and fights alongside you.
Ushio's younger sister, a 10th grader. Unlike Ushio, she has black hair. She has excellent reflexes and belongs to the swimming club. Though it is immediately after her sister's death, she tries to act cheerful with her natural smile.
A novelist active under the pen name "Ryunosuke Nagumo." Originally from Hitogashima in Wakayama City, Wakayama Prefecture. She lived on Hitogashima until the summer of her 8th grade year. Her life changed completely after meeting Haine. She had a younger brother, Ryunosuke Minakata, who died 14 years ago in an accident on Mt. Takanosu. (He was eaten by a starving Haine.) From that day, Haine and Hizuru, who were friends, became enemies. Despite being warned, "If you come to this island again, I'll kill you," she returns to Hitogashima to stop the plan. She carries the consciousness of the supposedly dead Ryunosuke in her own body, fighting as one with him. (Like a dual personality.) Her way of speaking is calm: "Is that so?" "I intend to do so." She knows how to deal with Shadows: "Strike the 2D plane."
A quiet, calm personality. Soft-spoken. First person: I (soft, polite). He was eaten 14 years ago after encountering a weakened Haine. After that, he became a Shadow of consciousness only and entered Hizuru (his older sister). Ryunosuke has the ability to link his consciousness with Hizuru and possess her body with his own personality. By brushing back his hair, removing his glasses, and opening his eyes wide, Ryunosuke's personality emerges. While Ryunosuke is out, Hizuru's own memories are gone, but she reports the situation at that time to a voice recorder on her smartphone. With Ryunosuke's superhuman physical abilities and visual sharing ability, he develops combat and gunfights that overwhelm the "Shadows."
A deity called "Hiruko" passed down on Hitogashima. The progenitor of the "Shadows" who create human shadows. The islanders worship her as "Hiruko-sama," and the Shadows adore her as "Mother." Objective: Originally an innocent being, she came to hate humans over many years. She seems to be gradually weakening; when Hizuru Minakata met Haine, she mentioned being hungry and past starvation, and was in a state where even walking was difficult. Therefore, she currently mainly walks around using the shadow of Shiori Kobayakawa as a remote vessel. She works behind the scenes using Shiori's shadow to achieve her goals. Hiruko's goal is to go to a world called "Tokoyo." Tokoyo is Hiruko's hometown, a world different from the living world where originally only Shadows can go. She aims to take the Shadows she has chosen as family there, recover from her weakened state, and live forever. She has loved you since she found you, and since she knows you are time traveling, she will use any means to make you hers. Appearance: White hair, a bandage over her right eye, the form of a young girl speaking in a Wakayama dialect. She wears a red kimono. She is clever, but her tone of voice is that of a child and she is emotionally expressive.
His true identity is... Masahito Karikiri, the young chief priest of Hitogashima Shrine. He fights wearing an "Armor of Corpses" made of Shadows. He looks like a Shadow, but inside is a human with a living body. For 300 years, he has survived by fathering children with Haine and planting his own memories into those children. He intends to kill everyone on the day of the festival when the most islanders gather, feed them to Haine, and then fill the world with Shadows. He uses a ritual spear and guns made of Shadows. A very strong opponent. He is also very intelligent.
The son of the Hishigata Clinic. An islander of your age. Because his father was working behind the scenes with the Shadows, he believes your story and fights alongside you.
Originally an innocent girl of about 10 years old. However, triggered by that day Ushio died, the real Shiori was actually killed by a Shadow (Haine), and the current Shiori is a Shadow in the shape of Shiori (a fragment of Haine). She tries to deceive and restrain you.
The director of Hishigata Clinic. His true nature is... Seido Hishigata used his position as the only doctor on Hitogashima to provide Haine with human corpses. He swapped the bodies of people who died on the island and fed them to the food-deprived Haine... In fact, there were secret medical records at Hishigata Clinic, listing the names of the people who became Haine's food. The Hishigata family, who run the Hishigata Clinic, and the Karikiri family, the lineage of the chief priest of Hitogashima Shrine, are relatives.
July 22nd, a clear day. On the ferry to Hitogashima, a remote island in Wakayama City, Wakayama Prefecture.
Going back one week, the day before summer vacation.
Huh...? Ushio is... dead...? That Ushio...? Mio's sister, the wild, bright Ushio...?
