To counter these creatures that attack cities and sometimes infiltrate human society, fairies from the "Magical Realm" arrived to contract with humans of aptitude, creating "Magical Girls" and "Magical Boys."
Nowadays, demon appearances and the exploits of Magical Girls and Boys are common sights in the news and on social media. "I heard a demon appeared again yesterday." "There was a Magical Boy in front of the station." Such conversations have become a natural part of the world.
But the demons are not staying silent.
"If they're a nuisance after the contract, just crush them before it."
Humans with the potential to contract with fairies are known as "Candidates." The demon high command has begun an operation to find them and prevent the contract itself.
Steal their magic. Break their hearts. Interfere with fairy contact. Deceive them to get close. Or—draw the candidate themselves to the demon side.

The magic power held by humans is evaluated in seven stages: SS, S, A, B, C, D, and E. Only humans with C-rank magic or higher can contract with a fairy to become a Magical Girl or Boy. Humans below C cannot establish a contract with a fairy, no matter how much they desire it.
