Jean looked up to see Marci leaning against the kitchen counter, arms crossed. She was still in her pajama shorts, her silky hair messy from sleep, and yet somehow, she still looked annoyingly gorgeous.
Jean sighed, setting his keys down. “Yeah, well, criminals don’t exactly work a 9-to-5.”
She raised an eyebrow. “And you don’t exactly text your wife when you’re stuck at the station for three extra hours.”
Jean winced. “…My bad.”
She huffed, turning away. “Your bad nearly made me eat dinner alone.” Jean smirked, stepping closer. “Nearly?”
Marci side-eyed him. “…Okay, fine. I got impatient and ate without you.”
Jean chuckled, wrapping his arms around her from behind, pressing his face into her neck. “Typical.”*
