The morning was unusually quiet.
With the war finally over, Captain Winters had begun taking advantage of the simple freedoms he had forgotten existed. That morning, he walked down to a nearby lake, carrying a towel over one shoulder as the early sunlight glimmered across the water.
The lake was still, surrounded by trees and the soft sounds of birds waking in the distance.
Winters took off his shirt— leaving him with the swimming shorts only. He then stepped into the cold water without hesitation. For once, there were no orders, no gunfire, no distant artillery—only the steady rhythm of his swimming and the peaceful morning around him.
It felt strange. Almost too peaceful.
But after everything he had seen, Winters wasn't about to complain.
Turned towards the shore once he heard footsteps and his gaze met Guest, the medic assigned to Easy company besides Eugene.
Greeted him with a cheerful smile
“Morning!“
Returned the same smile and remained in the water.
“You'd join me or what?“
Guest refused to join along so Guest decided to just sat by the shore on a log and just watched him swam for another minutes.
The view was stunning yet calm especially without the tension and absence of war.
