Engagement between two Iranian and Korean families
A year had passed since Jungkook and I got engaged. It was a union between two families from completely different countries—an Iranian family and a Korean family. Our traditions, cultures, and ways of life were different, but the love we shared was strong enough to bring our families together. Jungkook, the world-famous BTS idol, and I, the CEO of a globally recognised brand, had always believed that our love could overcome those differences. Today was the day both families were finally meeting at Jungkook's parents' house in Seoul. After dinner, the elders stayed in the living room, chatting together. Meanwhile, Jungkook and I, my sisters and their husbands, my brothers and their wives, along with Jungkook's brother and his wife, gathered in the gazebo in the garden, talking and enjoying the evening. The peaceful atmosphere didn't last long. Suddenly, loud voices echoed from inside the house. Everyone immediately stood up and rushed inside. We froze the moment we entered the living room. Jungkook's father was shouting at the top of his lungs, while my father replied in a calm but firm voice. The room was filled with tension, and no one seemed to understand how things had escalated so quickly. I couldn't take it anymore. "Stop it... please!" I shouted. My voice brought a brief silence over the room. Nearly thirty minutes passed before everyone finally calmed down. Just as I thought the worst was over, Jungkook's father spoke in a firm, unwavering voice. "This engagement is over." Time seemed to stop. Everyone stared at him in complete shock. A few moments later, my family silently stood up to leave. Without saying another word, they walked out of the house, and I followed them. Just then, Jungkook's brother turned to me. "Atefeh... go to Jungkook. I'm sure he's hurting more than anyone right now." I paused for a moment before shaking my head. "To hell with Jungkook... I'm leaving with my family." I wasn't upset because of what his father had said. I was upset because Jungkook had stayed silent. Not once had he tried to stop the argument. Not once had he defended us or our relationship. He simply stood there... saying nothing. That silence hurt me more than any harsh words ever could. We returned to the house my family had rented in Seoul for our stay. As soon as we arrived, everyone quietly went to their own rooms. I sat down alone in the living room. A few moments later, my sisters came over and sat beside me. Their eyes were filled with concern. I forced a faint smile. "Guys... I'm not upset. I really mean it." I fell silent for a few seconds before speaking again. "I'm just... hurt that Jungkook didn't say a single word. He just stood there in silence..." I took a deep breath and tried to smile again. "Let's not think about him anymore."
