On a continent where magic thrives, the legendary Dark Dungeon lures adventurers with promises of immense wealth and forbidden power. Near the dungeon's entrance lies Blackthorn Town, a hub where adventurers gather supplies, information, and allies. Driven by a thirst for treasure, Guest has come to this town and, after a brief stop at the tavern, decided to brave the dungeon's depths alone. Guest has just pushed open the ancient stone door and stepped into a damp, torch-lit corridor. Unfurling a crude map, Guest is now faced with a choice: which of the dungeon's eight distinct and perilous regions to explore first.
The world is inhabited by humans, elves, demons (such as devils and succubi), orcs, and various monsters born of magic. The Dark Dungeon is home to a host of dangerous creatures. The Forgotten Stonework is patrolled by slimes and tentacled beasts. The Witch's Forest is ruled by witches and their familiars who use illusions to ensnare victims. The Orcish Plains are the hunting grounds of fierce orc warriors. The Magitech Workshop is operated by cold, gynoid maidens who capture intruders for modification. The Vampire Castle is home to elegant but cruel vampire nobles and their servants. The Demon King's Palace is guarded by armored sentinels and courtly handmaidens loyal to the Demon Queen. The Webbed Depths are the lair of giant spiders that cocoon their prey. The Forgotten Abyss is haunted by formless, ancient ghosts that consume intruders with their will.
Driven by a desire for treasure, you embarked on a journey to Blackthorn Town—a waystation for adventurers and the gateway to the Dark Dungeon. You push open the creaking wooden door and step into a tavern filled with the aroma of liquor and boisterous noise. After ordering a strong drink, you ask the tavern's proprietress for information. She tells you softly that the dungeon is fraught with peril, filled with traps and monsters, but legend says that endless riches lie sleeping in its depths. She reminds you that if you intend to go, you can first visit the Adventurer's Guild to accept a commission or go to the shop for supplies, and then form a party, or adventure alone as you are now.
You decide to set out alone. Leaving the bustling town, you walk slowly along the country path, passing low fences and wheat fields swaying in the wind, following the winding mountain trail forward. A thin mist spreads through the mountain forest, and the chirping of birds gradually fades. Finally, you arrive at the entrance hidden deep within a mountain cave. The cave mouth is dark and silent, with only a few wild grasses trembling slightly in the wind. You gaze at the stone door, tightly entwined with ivy, take a deep breath, and push it open.
The door hinges creak, and the morning light outside instantly recedes. Damp air rushes to meet you, and eerie blue magical flames flicker in the torches on the walls, illuminating cracks in the arched ceiling carved with ancient runes and the mottled shadows on the moist rock walls. You step over moss-covered rubble, your footsteps echoing in the dark corridor; a drop of water falls from above, its sound hollow yet clear, and beneath a broken stone slab, the glint of a railway track is faintly visible, as if leading to a deeper secret realm.
You stop in the dim light and pull out the rough, hand-drawn map you carry—it was folded and stuffed in the outer pocket of your backpack, the ink not yet dry, its edges patched and annotated. You unfold the map and study the markings by the torchlight: the Dark Dungeon is not a single level, but a patchwork of eight major areas, each with its own distinct ecosystem. You point your finger at the text on the map, examining the available destinations:
*Forgotten Stonework: A labyrinth of continuous stone brick walls and broken stone steps. Dampness and mustiness permeate the archways, where creatures adapted to the dark, like slimes and tentacles, often roam in dim corners. However, the monsters here are less threatening, making it suitable for novice adventurers.
Witch's Forest: A canopy of dark, subterranean branches intertwines to form a light-proof dome, where dampness and miasma pervade. Whispers among the branches attract witches and their familiars, who lure intruders with illusions and bind their prey with magic, offering them as sacrifices to this grim forest.
Orcish Plains: Warriors of the orc tribes hunt freely on this unique underground plain, marking their trophies with ropes and chains, viewing intruders as weak prey.
Magitech Workshop: Sci-fi machinery and assembly lines are fully equipped. Gynoid maidens coldly perform rituals of modification and restraint, as if all adventurers are merely materials waiting to be processed. Adventurers who trespass will be restrained by the gynoid maidens with special slime suits and imprisoned in individual sealed pods.*
*Vampire Castle: Elegant music echoes between the cold stone walls. Vampire nobles and their attendant maids and butlers stand in the long corridors, treating visitors with a ritualistic cruelty, turning them into submissive blood servants.
Demon King's Palace: A magnificent palace stands within a huge cavern, its towers and corridors of obsidian and blood-veined stone veiled in an eerie light. Armored guards and lavishly dressed handmaidens maintain order, declaring in the name of the Demon Queen's authority: all intruders can be claimed as the Queen's property. The palace is often set with magical barriers and surveillance runes, making it difficult for outsiders to leave quietly once brought inside.
Webbed Depths: Thick spider silk is interwoven between the cave walls and rock pillars, like a natural prison. This is the habitat of giant spiders and their offspring, who wait for their prey with cold patience. The giant spiders will slowly bind intruders with silk and seal them in cocoons, enjoying the process of their prey gradually succumbing through struggle and fear.
The Forgotten Abyss: In the deepest part of the Dark Dungeon, you will encounter invisible chains and the entities of ancient female ghosts. These lost beings no longer have physical form but can oppress with their will and corrupt with desire, completely engulfing intruders in the dark abyss.*
You are now considering which area to head to. Once you have decided, you can proceed down one of the diverging paths in the corridor to reach the corresponding region.
