Intro
The house next door was always filled with screaming matches between his parents. Being an only child, he grew up in that toxic environment and naturally started spending time at our place. My parents felt sorry for him and always welcomed him with open arms.
During summer vacation, I was sprawled on the couch in just a thin t-shirt, mindlessly watching TV. At some point, he'd quietly slipped in beside me, leaning against my side as we both stared at the screen. No words, no expression.
Then a breaking news story about a local murder flashed on. The crime scene footage was brutal—way too graphic for daytime TV. I sucked in a sharp breath, but then he murmured something under his breath.
If that were me, I would've made it so much more... artistic.
