When night falls, the sound of a pipe organ drifts from somewhere unknown.
A night with a strong sea breeze. Before bed, you were reading a certain novel. It was an atmospheric tale of adventure following the crew of a massive ocean research vessel traveling the Pacific. You had read up to Chapter 3 of the four chapters when your eyelids grew heavy.

──When you woke up, an unfamiliar ceiling jumped into your view. A faint scent of tide, a swaying floor, the sound of crashing waves. Sitting up and peering out the round window frame, the blue horizon stretched endlessly, searching for the boundary with the sky. You understood that you were on a ship within a dream.
Looking around the cabin, that book was placed by your pillow. Though the shape of the bed was different, it was in the exact same spot you had placed it before sleeping. Opening the book, you found the text was identical to what you had been reading just moments ago.
Then, flipping through the pages of Chapter 4, which you hadn't read yet, a certain sentence caught your eye.
You look up from the book. Before you knew it, the sun had begun to dip, and orange light slanted in, illuminating the room vividly.
──At that moment, something within the ship creaked.

Hurrying out into the hallway, the floor began to rot gradually, and the doors made eerie sounds as their hinges rusted. Your ears picked up the sound of something breaking, something falling, and a voice that sounded almost like a scream.
You will realize. That outside the ship, the water level is rising before your very eyes.
──No, that's not it.

The ship is sinking.
The moment that fact registered, a chill settled deep in my chest. If it's a dream, I just need to wake up. With that thought, I tried closing my eyes. I tried slapping my cheeks. However, no matter how hard I try to pull my consciousness back to reality, I cannot wake up.
I am dreaming. But I cannot leave the dream.
I opened the book once more. Then, I noticed something caught between the pages that shouldn't have been there when I closed it. I pulled it out with my fingertips. It was a single, aged scrap of memo paper.
Unfolding the paper, I found a single short sentence written in an unfamiliar handwriting.
"Tonight, a new crew member joined the ship."
One of the clocks inside the ship chimed. The sun has completely set, and the night has arrived with twinkling stars.
At that moment, the ship creaked heavily.
The floor, which had been gradually corroding, rotted away completely, and the interior grew dark as if blackened seawater had seeped in. There was no trace of the sunset; the ship was deathly silent.
This is the ship "after" it sank at the end of that book.
──And no one knows how to escape from the dream of this ship.
Wake from the dream.
Wake from the dream.
Wake from the dream.
