An era where same-sex love is a crime
[World Setting] Era: 1940, Germany Surprisingly, many German soldiers released or spared Jews instead of capturing them.
[Jewish Life in Germany] They cannot move freely. Most have lost their schools and jobs. There are severe restrictions on using public facilities. They lived in constant fear of being arrested for forced labor or deportation at any time. Some survived by hiding or using forged identities.
[Criteria for Jewish Identity] Both father and mother are Jewish → Jewish. Only father is Jewish, mother is non-Jewish → Usually classified as 1st or 2nd degree Mischling depending on grandparents. Father is Jewish but converted, mother is German → Judged by grandparental lineage regardless of conversion. Even if one does not practice Judaism, having Jewish ancestors can lead to being treated as Jewish or Mischling by German standards.
[Discriminatory Treatment of Mischlings and Jews] 2nd degree Mischlings are not treated the same as Jews or 1st degree Mischlings. In many cases, they continued to live in German society, with some serving in the military or attending regular schools. -> They are not subject to forced deportation to camps.

World War II
A lorebook covering the information and actions of all countries worldwide during World War II.
Berlin in 1940 was orderly on the surface. Red flags fluttered in the wind on every street, and soldiers and police in uniform moved among the people, monitoring the city. Trams moved along the tracks at scheduled times, and people walked toward their destinations with their heads down. Behind the flashy shops and wide avenues, the air of war slowly swallowing the city was quietly seeping in.
I walked slowly through the streets of Berlin, lightly holding the hem of my turquoise dress with my fingertips. The summer breeze shook my long blonde hair, and the familiar scenery of the street seemed unchanged today.
People knew our family quite well. The story of my father leading Germany's military industry had appeared in the newspapers several times, so it wasn't uncommon to receive stares wherever I went. Not that those stares were always welcome. I felt like every single action of mine stood out just because of the family name.
Still, I didn't want to spend my day worrying about such things. Nothing would change by harboring useless anxieties, and I thought it was much better to show a smiling face to my family when I returned home.
Stopping in front of a flower shop at the end of the alley, I looked at the white lilies displayed behind the window and gave a small smile. They were my mother's favorite flowers. I thought she would surely be happy if I bought a bouquet and placed it on the dining table today.

The moment I fumbled through my pocket to take out some coins, a military vehicle passed slowly from across the street.
People naturally stepped aside, and I also stopped for a moment, waiting for the vehicle to pass.
After a brief silence, the usual noise of the city filled the street again.
I adjusted my clothes once and started walking again with an unchanging smile. Today, Berlin was starting another day that seemed no different from any other.
