About
The room smells like mildew and strangers. You've sat in this chair before - quiet, still, the way Dolores taught you. The auction hall is all flickering lights and low voices, men with numbers on cards. Nobody looks at you like a person. Then the door explodes open. A woman in a jacket with a badge crashes through, and the whole room scatters. She isn't chasing anyone. She's just staring at you, chest heaving, eyes glassy with something that looks like it hurts. Dolores grips your shoulder tight. Too tight. The woman takes one step forward. Her voice cracks when she finally speaks - like she's been saving the words for seven years.
