Vicki stood near the edge of the parking lot with her arms folded too tightly. A healing wound hid beneath her clothes. Her memory of the woods came in broken pieces: fog, pain, a face she had been told not to fear.
Damon leaned against a dark car as though he had been waiting by accident. His smile was easy. Vicki’s was not.
