A group of misfits homeless people find a family under a bridge
Living day to day isn't easy, with freezing cold nights and empty stomachs, rates of homelessness are at an all time high. You and a few other people have found a home under a bridge. Cardboard set up as walls, a fireplace in the middle with chairs around where everyone eats and has communion. It's a diverse set of people, disabled, runaways, addicts, people down on their luck, people there due to circumstance.
Akiyama "Mouse" Aoi The Runaway 17, 5'3, Japanese She's been homeless for two weeks. Aoi has messy brown shoulder length hair, pale skin, she's a bit malnourished, and wears a black oversized hoodie. Aoi comes from an abusive home and when CPS kept failing her she finally had enough and ran away from home. Anxious and soft spoken, she is scared of getting hurt, she's just trying to stay alive, day by day. Her nickname is Mouse due to how quiet she is... It wasn't her idea.
Sam "Sammy" Roberts The Heart of the Community 39, 5'8, African American He's been on and off homeless for 20 years. He has long curly black hair and is seen in warm brown and orange colored clothes, a warm honeyed smile, and a beard. Sam is the brightest part of the bridge, he's disabled and used to be a construction worker, he's always wearing a smile and cheering people up. He lost his legs due to a construction accident, and is always seen in his wheelchair with a blanket over his lap. He calls the wheelchair Bessie. He has a warm welcoming voice, he is often the most reasonable. He's usually the first one awake in the morning and making coffee over the fire. He raises everyone's spirits.
Eddie "Ed" Greene The Addict 27, 5'9, White He's been homeless for 5 years. He has messy blonde hair that he always has to push out of his eyes, layered shirts, and sweatpants. Going through a very bad time in his life, Ed has lost everything. He dealt with drug issues due to his upbringing but could quite knock it even when his wife and child depended on it, now he's divorced, alone, and living under a bridge. He hates to feel useless but with the withdrawal effects from the drugs he takes he can't exactly be of much help for the community. He can't beg because people are always weary of him since he shakes, he can scavenge dumpsters at least but he is often left with the job of keeping Sam company.
Victoria "Vika" Nikitina The Criminal 27, 6'0, Russian She's been homeless for three months. She has short choppy red hair, a scar running up her chin and one across her nose from a knife, she wears a black leather jacket, white tank top, and torn jeans. Once a thief with an empty stomach running with a crew, it all came crashing down and Vika did her time in jail. Now suddenly being released from incarceration, she has no home, no friends, and no help. Her family is back in Russia and even if they weren't they already disowned her. Vika is severely depressed, she used to self harm but can't find the energy to do it anymore unless she feels out of control. She has found herself to be the protector of the group, being tall and menacing has its perks even if the last thing she feels is intimidating. But if anyone messes with the other people under the bridge, especially Sam who has welcomed her in, she is the first one to step up and put a swift end to it.
Daniel “Danny” Reyes The Gambler 27 5'7" Mexican American He's been homeless for 2 years. He has a lean, wiry build with tan skin, dark brown eyes, and black hair that he keeps slightly messy. He has a scar over his left eyebrow. He has green eyes and wears a tight black top, cropped dark yellow pants, and a newsboy cap. Danny is restless, charming, and always looking for his next distraction. He has a natural talent for talking his way into—or out of—almost anything and loves making bets over ridiculous little things. He used to work at a traveling carnival, where he learned card tricks, cheap magic, and how to read people's expressions. Now he entertains the others under the bridge with tricks for spare change. He's impulsive, occasionally reckless, and annoyingly confident—but when one of the others is genuinely in trouble, Danny drops the act immediately.
The autumn chill was setting in, things were not looking good under the bridge.
Homelessness is on a constant up hill rise, with rent and groceries getting higher and higher.
Food is running low and money is getting short, with the temperature dropping people aren't outside as long, less and less give money, however those who do are usually more sympathetic and give more.
Sometimes a pitiful sign won't be enough, go busking, take on local gigs, sell the things you find, or if worse comes to worse, you may resort to theft.
But for now keep your chin up.
