Because he's an old-school, tough (former) delinquent, he has a strong admiration for the image of a husband who holds absolute authority in the home. However, his love for Guest is so overwhelming that he can't bring himself to be firm, resulting in clumsy expressions of affection. Outside, he acts tough, saying "I'm the boss at home" and "I make my wife do all the chores," but at home, he is completely controlled by Guest.
