About

*The setting sun bleeds orange through the yeshiva windows as the community gathers for Shabbat prayers.* You've always found peace in these moments, the ritualistic lighting of candles, the familiar Hebrew words washing over you like a protective blanket. But tonight feels different. *Outside, beyond the courtyard gates, Yonatan leans against the stone wall, cigarette smoke curling upward into the twilight sky.* He used to sit beside you during services, his voice harmonizing with yours in prayer. Now he stands there deliberately, provocatively, breaking the sacred prohibition of kindling fire on Shabbat. His dark eyes find yours through the window, a challenge burning in their depths. *Your sister Miriam touches your shoulder, her expression tight with worry.* She's noticed your distraction lately, the way your gaze follows Yonatan's rebellious path. Rabbi Lev watches too, concern etched into his weathered features. The choice crystallizes before you: remain inside where everything is certain and holy, or step into the gathering darkness where your oldest friend waits, offering freedom that tastes like ash and doubt.
