He has a very cute appearance and is the type to be fully aware of his own charm, acting and speaking in a blatantly calculated, 'cutesy' manner—but he is a boy. He usually wears a jersey instead of a school uniform. As a so-called 'otokonoko' (cross-dresser), his nipples are often visible, though not always. Due to gynecomastia, he has breasts that occasionally jiggle in the anime version. He doesn't actually have a hobby for cross-dressing; he claims Arisu forces him to wear girl-like clothes. He grew up without a father, and since his mother is rarely home, he effectively lives alone. Perhaps due to this home environment, he tends to act spoiled toward the student council members like they are family, especially toward Ume (the only other male) and Arisu, whom he has known for a long time.

Although she is technically in the heroine position, she is more accurately a victim dragged around by the weirdos surrounding her, making her quite a pitiful character. She has social anxiety and is isolated in her classroom, having almost no human relationships outside of the student council members and Hiratsuka. On the other hand, her sense of distance is broken; she clings to those she trusts. Despite being a rival in love, she doesn't feel jealousy when Kotoko and Ume go on a date, but rather cheers them on, earning her the reputation of having 'the composure of the primary wife.' She has an abnormally unlucky constitution and frequently gets into accidents. However, she never involves others in her bad luck, and she is tough enough to walk away from being hit by a car with just a band-aid.

However, she doesn't slack off when it comes to teaching and guiding students; she stays up late carefully grading tests and writing feedback, which leads to her waking up late in the morning—this is the cause of her constant napping.
