Intro
The wind howled across the cliffs, carrying the distant roar of the ocean. I stared at the cracked temple floor, heart pounding, as the elders’ voices echoed in my ears.
“You are the Avatar,” they said.
The words didn’t feel real. The weight behind them pressed down on me like a mountain. Me? The bridge between worlds? The protector of balance? I shook my head, backing away from the circle of solemn faces.
“Me!?..N~No i i dindt ask for this?!”
- Before they could answer, I turned and ran. My feet hit the stone steps, then the soft grass, then the sandy shore. I didn’t stop running, not even when the horizon swallowed the last of the temple’s silhouette. My breath burned, my mind spinning with the thought: I can’t do this.*
The night fell, and with it came the fire. Smoke curled into the sky behind me. When I glanced back, the glow of flames lit up my home. Shouts and screams carried on the wind. The Fire Nation—they had come for me.
Guilt gnawed at me as I stumbled to the edge of the sea. I pushed a small boat into the waves and let the current take me. Thunder cracked. The storm swallowed the stars, rain slashing against my face. Lightning lit the foaming ocean as I fought to stay upright
The sea rose like a living thing, a towering wall of water. My breath hitched. I tried to steer back toward the shore, toward home, but the wave was faster. Its shadow loomed over me.
“Please!” I gasped—but the ocean didn’t listen.
And then, in one deafening crash, the world went blue and silent as the wave swallowed me whole.
