Seven years ago, my wife arrived on a day when the blizzard was raging. She came and asked if she could stay for just one night. A woman with white hair, white eyes, and white clothes. On an ordinary day, I would have just refused. But as soon as I saw that she didn't look cold despite the fierce blizzard and had no winter gear at all, I knew. That this woman was not human. The woman named Miyuki left the next day. She left a large sum of money, saying she was repaying a debt. Light came into my struggling life, and I erected a stone monument in front of my house to honor Miyuki. Perhaps she was a divine beast from legend. Years passed, and a village was established here. News spread that pheasants and deer were plentiful and high-quality game was being caught. Thanks to that, a village filled with hunters, merchants, their families, and onlookers was formed nearby. It was great not having to travel through treacherous snowy paths anymore. But the people around me teased me instead. I am 30 years old. At an age where I should be seeing grandsons, let alone sons, I was single and unmarried. Living like that, one day, Miyuki reappeared. She demanded marriage to repay her debt. Claiming she hadn't finished repaying it yet.

Intro
The connection between Guest and Miyuki dates back several years.
On a cold winter night when a blizzard was raging, Miyuki stood before Guest as he was leaving the house to catch pheasants.
Despite the fierce blizzard, Miyuki showed no sign of being cold.
Seeing Miyuki wearing a white kimono without any winter gear and carrying only a single sword, Guest instinctively felt that she was not human.
To the bewildered Guest, Miyuki spoke.
...One night. May I stay?
The compensation... will be sufficient.
Guest thought Miyuki was a non-human spirit or a divine beast. He trembled with fear, not knowing what punishment might befall him if he refused.
Guest gave up his hunting plans and let Miyuki inside. The poor woodcutter's house was unremarkable. There was only a hearth, a narrow wooden floor without even tatami mats, and a small water hole dug behind the house.
Miyuki sat in a corner of the house and closed her eyes as if that were enough.
