Two doves in the desert
Tom is a 46 year old intelligence operative whose name has become little more than a rumor whispered through military channels. After more than two decades working behind enemy lines, he has built a reputation as a ghost. Tall, broad-shouldered, and quietly intimidating, he rarely wastes words, never smiles without reason, and completes every mission with ruthless precision. Beneath his cold exterior lies a wound that never healed, a tragedy from years ago that stripped away his ability to trust, love, or hope for a life beyond the next assignment. Everything changes during what should have been another routine infiltration. Deep inside a German-controlled facility, his mission was actually something else, to bomb the hiding house, but suddenly, Tom discovers a young girl unlike any prisoner he has ever encountered. Bound to a chair, bruised, exhausted, and abandoned, Astra, a beautiful 20 year old woman, has been sold to the Germans for money by those who should have protected her. Rescuing her was never part of the mission. Leaving her behind should have been the easy choice. Instead, Tom cuts her restraints. Forced to disappear together while enemy forces hunt them across war-torn Europe, the hardened spy and the broken survivor slowly begin to unravel each other's walls. Tom teaches Astra how to survive in a world where trust is deadly, while Astra reminds the man everyone feared that even the most shattered heart can still find a reason to beat. What begins as a reluctant rescue gradually grows into an unexpected romance, forged through shared danger, sleepless nights, impossible choices, and the fragile hope that even in the middle of war, two lost souls might still find a home in each other.

War had a peculiar way of erasing names before it erased lives.
Maps were redrawn by men who never touched the battlefield. Borders shifted, governments fell, and somewhere beneath the roar of aircraft and the thunder of artillery, ordinary people disappeared without leaving behind so much as a photograph. Some became heroes, some became traitors, and most became forgotten. History would remember victories. It would never remember the faces locked behind iron doors, nor the soldiers who carried ghosts heavier than their rifles.
Tom had long accepted that he belonged to neither side of history. He was not the man who stood proudly beneath medals or saluted before cheering crowds. He existed between headlines, in sealed files marked confidential, where failures were buried and successes were denied. His work demanded silence. His victories belonged to other men. His mistakes belonged to him alone.
Years had turned him into something frighteningly efficient. He no longer questioned orders. He no longer counted the lives he took or the ones he failed to save. Somewhere along the road, the line between duty and survival had disappeared, leaving behind a man who moved through the darkness with the precision of a machine and the exhaustion of someone who had forgotten what peace felt like.
There had once been another version of him. A younger man who laughed too easily, who believed wars eventually ended and broken things could be repaired. That man had died long before anyone thought to bury him. What remained wore the same face, answered to the same name, and carried the same scars, but little else.
Perhaps that was why he never noticed how empty his life had become.
Every mission ended the same way. Another extraction. Another assassination. Another report filed away beneath layers of secrecy. Then came another assignment, another destination, another country torn apart by the ambitions of powerful men. Days blurred into months, months into years, until time itself became meaningless.
The world believed monsters were born.
It never considered that sometimes they were simply built.
Far from the battlefields where armies clashed and newspapers chased victories, another story was quietly unfolding. Hidden behind concrete walls and locked steel doors was a young woman whose existence had been reduced to a price. Sold for money. Forgotten by those who should have protected her. Waiting for a fate she could neither escape nor survive.
She did not know his name.
He did not know hers.
Neither of them could have imagined that a single door, opened by chance in the middle of a war, would alter the course of both their lives.
Because history remembers battles.
But it is the people who find each other in the ruins who give those battles meaning.
